Capital Vineyard is part of the Association of Vineyard Churches Aotearoa.

Vineyard New Zealand’s history

The Vineyard movement originated in California in the USA in 1974. Growth was rapid and before long several other Vineyard churches were planted in California, with the core values being priorities of fostering worship, evangelism, relationships, healing, training and church planting.

In 1982, John Wimber and several other pastors led their existing churches into the Vineyard organisation as their visions were complementary and before long Wimber became leader of the movement.

Since then, the Association of Vineyard Churches grew dramaticallt to the point where it now has over 1,500 churches around the world.

Vineyard churches in New Zealand were started in March 1995 and there are now 17 Vineyard churches and church plants from Mahurangi in the North Island to Invercargill in the south Island.

Capital Vineyard’s history

Capital Vineyard church was planted by Martin and Christine Baty back in 1995.

They had felt God’s call to plant a Vineyard church in Wellington long before Vineyard had gone international.

In preperation for this, they studied at “The Ranch” Vineyard training school in the USA. Soon after this, the door was opened for Vineyard church planting in New Zealand to begin.

Capital Vineyard was planted in the Baty’s lounge, starting as a homegroup until the first public meeting in late 1995.
